IMWA organised Quran Competition on 10 November, 2017 for boys and girls, up-to Class XII at Al Najaat Boys School, Salmiya, along with a separate arrangement where parents of participating candidates were tested of their Islamic knowledge. This event followed by Awards Conferral ceremony on December 08, 2017. The participants as a whole were tested of their skills in Quranic recitation, elocution, knowledge based quiz on Islamic history and religious matters and calligraphy.

The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. Abdul Qadir, the founder Director of Shaheen Group of Institute in India. This group specialises in preparing students for Medicine and Engineering Courses. Dr. Qadir touched on the finer points that enables college students to prepare and beat the fierce entrance exams in India. Also, Mr. Ali from the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs graced the occasion. Dr. Qadir, congratulated all the winners of Quran Competition who had put in their hard work well supported by their passionate parents and enthusiastic teachers.   Those children who could not make it to the mark should not feel disheartened. He advised, winning or losing is part of life. One should not give up but keep trying and trying till they succeed.

The Quran Competition was divided into four segments, The Elocution, Recitation, Calligraphy and written quiz. An additional category of written quiz was for parents.

In Western classical rhetoric, elocution is one of the five core disciplines of pronunciation, which is the art of delivering speeches. Orators are trained not only on proper diction, but on the proper use of gestures, stance, and dress. The following participants were the winners of Elocution contest judged on their proper diction, proper use of gestures, stance, and dress.

The Elocution was based on the following topics:

Group B – Islam : Mercy to mankind

Group C – Muslim Contribution to the world of Science

Group D – Al Quran: the ultimate source of guidance to mankind

Group E – The world religions and path to peace

Another section which drew a large number of students is Calligraphy. Calligraphy means beautiful writing. Calligraphy is a visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument, brush, or other writing instruments. A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as, "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner"

Keeping in with the importance of Holy Quran for muslims in particular and mankind in general. IMWA for the last several years had been educating our brothers, sisters and children alike,. - of the right path in worshipping Allah, leading a good life, living in harmony and mutual respect with other religions and cultures.  Muslims learn from Quran, morals of life.  Quran is a  guide and command for rituals including prayers, fasting, pilgrimage, rules of marriage, divorce, inheritance, finance, partnerships, you name it and the subject is covered in Quran. This segment consists of two portions, written Quiz Contest and Recitation of Quranic Verses.

There were approximately 400 registrations of participants of which around 350 took the floor for test and 104 participants were declared as winners based on their written test performance. From the last year, we have included, quiz based on Islamic history and deen itself for parents too. We have received a tremendous response from them. A total of app. 50 parents participated in high scoring quiz game.

Besides, the merit positions, special prizes were given to the wards of IMWA members under the category of IMWA Talent and an award of excellence to repeat winners of last year. IMWA took an unusual decision of awarding two prizes for two tie in first and second positions in parent’s category. This was done in view of the high scores secured by winning parents.

The programme curtains were drawn with the distribution of gifts and prizes sponsored by Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Ministry and Administration of Grand Mosque of Kuwait.

We continue to seek Allah’s blessings that more and more of us benefit from this programme with each passing year and we remain steadfast in our efforts
